Having a degree in Architecture, remodeling an old 1906 craftsman home gave me a great chance to design and try some new ideas on my own house. After building a 30 ft steel structure to support a new kitchen, bedroom, bath, and a new pool below the deck, I still needed to make everything more environmentally efficient. Using Jacob at ekologe proved to be the right choice to replace my old furnace with a new heat exchanger, installing a variable speed pool pump, and to adding new solar panels. He thought well ahead of what might be my needs in the future. It took some time to get through the red tape of the Building Dept. and the Dept of Water and Power, but it was all well explained and smoothed out by Jacob. He was always available and there to oversee what was being done. That is incredibly rare. For my kind of project, Jacob was first rate and I would certainly highly recommend him.

Earlier this year, our home suffered significant water damage due to heavy rains. We reached out to Ekologe and were fortunate to work with Jacob. He meticulously assessed the situation, provided a clear plan of action, and ensured everything was restored to its original state. Our home now looks fantastic! The professionalism and expertise exhibited by Jacob and the ekologe team are commendable. Highly recommend their services to anyone in need!

We recently worked with ekologe to retrofit our windows and add mini splits to our home. Jacob (CEO) and Yuvi were amazing--well organized, attentive, and had great communication. While some crews could be a bit cleaner and more detail-oriented, Jacob and Yuvi promptly addressed any issues that came up. We'd recommend them to anyone and would definitely work with them again for future projects.

Our roof leaked during the heavy rains of December 2021 and after getting quotes from 5 different contractors, our HOA decided to hire on ekologe. While the ekologe quote fell in the middle of the range, Jacob (owner) was by far the most communicative out of all the companies we sought out and we thought that was paramount to getting a high-quality job done. They removed the old roof down to the plywood, replaced any problem areas, like old scuppers, installed new underlayment and installed an energy-efficient torch down roof, and used 3-ply in parts for added water protection. Upon a particularly difficult inspection with the city, they were ask to add two layers of elastomeric coating to make it extra heat-reflective. Jacob's team worked through unbearably hot conditions with the utmost professionalism and efficiency.Jacob himself has gone above and beyond to keep us updated every step of the way and that assurance is worth whatever price difference we got from lower bids. I completely trust ekologe and will continue to hire them for other renovation projects we have in the future!

These guys came to meet with us late in 2021 to just toss around ideas for our 1981 kitchen. First, they suggested, pick your appliances, then work around those. So, we did, and due to a distributor promotion, we ordered the appliances in January. By late January 2022, we had started meetings onsite with the company owners to put ideas on paper. They brought in their designer, who had excellent tools for measuring and documenting every inch of the space. We made a list of what "finishes" to buy. Aside from the basic cabinets and concealed lumber and hardware, we had to select and buy SO many things: Lamp fixtures, sink, tile, countertop, cabinet handles, paint colors... you name it. I think this assignment is standard. In February, we talked price. Having not done a new kitchen since 1981, we were unsure what to expect. Our first budget was not adequate, and Ekologe's first bid was too high. But on the second meeting in our home, we all came to agreement on the dollar amount. Jacob did point out what sort of things could end up costing extra, just to avoid surprises. We signed the contract, paid a deposit, and they drew up a timeline (which is a VERY good step, since a job like this needs to follow certain steps in order). They rely on several independent specialists for the various trades and everybody needs to stay in sync. In February, we ordered countertop material and tile from a local dealer they recommended (Jacob and his partner Evan accompanied us to advocate for us during the selection). These heavy items would be picked up later on. We then spent several weeks clearing out our kitchen and setting up a temporary food prep space in the guest bedroom. Cozy! Emptying cabinets of 40 years' worth of stored junk took lots of doing and decision-making, but we did empty the room. The first step was to be Demolition: Removing the original cabinets, countertops, backsplash, etc. This started in late March, after Jacob and the site project manager finalized the timeline. We were told a very approximate timeframe of 3 months, start to finish. The tradesmen (and a few women) were, for the most part, very professional and went to work as "self-starters" after checking in with us. When the project manager was unavailable, he called the night before to explain exactly who would be coming the next morning, and when. This schedule was kept quite well. One painter who was doing touch-up on an existing cabinet showed up at dinnertime on a Friday night, a bit out of sync, which rubbed me the wrong way. I sent him home and told him to come back during daylight. He was a part-time worker for a subcontractor of ekologe-- not an ekologe employee-- so I understand how the communication broke down. Otherwise, we got along well with the tradespeople. Anyway, I'm running out of memories. By late May, we were pretty well finished and moving pieces back in. Ekologe installed our appliances we had preordered and it all came together looking wonderful.

I am so thankful for the individual who recommended ekologe on Nextdoor. Jacob was incredibly responsive from the start. He is extremely thoughtful in his approach to projects as well. He has such a great team that he works with. From the drywall, to lighting to our air conditioning... every step was so easy thanks to the process (shared Google doc timeline for transparency) and high standards in a finished process. As 2 professionals working from home, our WeShed conversion has changed our lives. Add solar power to this equation... our 2023 and beyond home life has evolved. I look forward to working with Jacob and Evan in the future.
